Wirral Grammar School for Boys exists to provide the best possible education for its pupils.

Each boy is encouraged to maximise his academic potential. A diverse extra-curricular programme provides scope for individual character development. We say that life at WGSB is about both working hard and playing hard.

Sixth Form Overview

The Wirral Grammar School Sixth Form has a reputation for high achievement and seeing students successfully go on to University or apprenticeship. There is a climate of intense competition for University places. Typically, over 85% of students gain their first choice of University course.

At Wirral Grammar School, we have an approach that works.  Students are set challenging targets, are monitored closely and as a consequence of this, alongside their desire to succeed, they achieve very high standards.  A wide range of additional opportunities and a curriculum that is tailored to the needs of the individual, means that our students ‘stand out’ when it comes to the University or employment application process.

We have built close relationships with a number of high performing Universities.  We have long standing links with Liverpool University.  We are a ‘partner school’ with the University of Lancaster, which for the last few years has been ranked among the ‘top ten’ Universities in the country. Admission tutors from Cambridge University attend briefing sessions at our school and we have built up strong connections with a number of the Cambridge Colleges.

At Wirral Grammar School we invest considerable time in building positive relationships with Universities and experience shows that this approach places our students in a good position when it comes to their individual applications.
