Course Description
Teaching Assistants support learning activities in schools. Depending on their role they can work with individual pupils, groups of children or, on occasion, a whole class. Teaching Assistants support pupils across a range of abilities as well as undertaking duties that support the class teacher, such as preparing the classroom and resources.
Some Teaching Assistants work exclusively with pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) or with those with other specific needs.
Who is this course for?
Teaching Assistant (Level 3 Standard) is aimed at students working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools.
What will you study?
This qualification provides students with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school environments.
It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, bilingual and special needs support and personal development and reflective practice.
Topics include:
- Understanding how pupils learn and develop
- Building relationships/ embracing change
- Develop strategies to support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning
- Keeping Children Safe in Education
Where will training take place?
This will be a mixture of development in the workplace, independent learning, remote visits and knowledge training sessions at our premises in Liverpool & St Helens and via virtual learning platforms.
Progression Opportunities
Students could progress onto a residential childcare Apprenticeship Standard to increase their knowledge of the childcare/education sector. They could also progress onto a team leading qualification to enhance their career prospects further.
